The protagonist Meridian is just coming into her own as a teenager, and as her miserable life seems to just float along, she bears witness to a horrible automobile accident and realizes something has changed inside of her.

Many of the scenes I could have predicted in the very beginning—of course, the author did leave major hints behind, but it bores the readers to know the outcome of almost the entire storyline. But I still could not put my finger on what it was.
